Is Building an Outdoor Room Cost Effective?

Home | Awnings | Page 16

With winter deciding to hit a month later this year, many Utah homeowners began enjoying their backyards and patios only to wake up with a pile of snow later. If you love being outside, but you aren’t enjoying the snow, consider adding an outdoor room to your home. Koolbreeze specializes in outdoor rooms, including glass enclosed rooms that can cover your patio or porch.

Consider how much time you do spend outside and if adding an outdoor room is a viable option. We do provide patio furniture and other accessories to decorate your new outdoor room. we recommend visiting our Ogden location to view the different patio options available and find the one that is best suited for your home. Our designers will meet with you to discuss everything and draw up plans of different outdoor rooms and styles.

Most homeowners do not add heaters and air conditioners to the room unless they plan on using it frequently and do not wish to have the windows as the only airflow source. If you need insulated rooms, we do need to discuss these options and determine the best route to take for your home and your desires.

winter grilling utahAn outdoor living space is one of the best additions to any home. With a patio awning to protect you from the intense heat of the sun, you can host a number of different parties. Kool Breeze can come out and take a look at your patio needs, and install a new awning to improve your backyard. Since its been warm this January, we have seen a lot of homeowners still hosting outdoor parties with some outdoor fireplaces. If you want to host a winter patio party, here are some tips:

Tip # 1 – Room and Chairs

Have you ever been to a party where you were required to stand the entire time? While you may not have a large enough patio to provide seats for all of your party guests, it helps to clear out excess clutter from your patio and provide enough chairs and stools for people to sit on. If you are working on remodeling your deck, add bench to it that stretches all the way around the deck. Having the seats permanently built into the deck will cut down on your furniture expenses and you don’t need to worry about putting them away during the winter, you have the option of sitting on them all year round and enjoying your yard.

Tip # 2 – Cooking

What party is complete without some outdoor cooking? Always make sure your patio has enough room for your BBQ grill and other cooking supplies. Be careful about open flames around your patio awning. While the patio awning is designed to protect you from heat, it cannot survive the intensity of a hot BBQ grill sending hot smoke and ashes up into it.

Tip # 3 – Light it up

No matter what type of party you are hosting, adding some lights to your awning is a fun way to add to the mood of the party. You can purchase awning lights for about $20 for 5 lights and string them up around the awning or right in the middle of it. Depending upon the type of patio awning you have, you may not be able to place the lights on the awning as it has the option to retract.

Add some candles or battery candles to your deck to create an intimate setting for a nice evening get-together with a few friends. Some music will also help to set the mood as you and your friends dance under the stars and enjoy the evening air.

Tip # 4 – Decorate it

The patio awning itself will come in a variety of colors and sizes. While you can stick with the original design of the patio awning, you do have the option to personalize it a little bit. Adding some window valences will shade your guests from the suns rays as it starts to descend as the party goes along.  For children’s parties you can use your deck railings to your advantage by sticking a “pin the tail on the donkey” poster along with some other fun games.  Use a side of the deck to hold a piñata for your party guests to enjoy as they not only make for a wonderful game but they are excellent decorative items to add to a deck for a fun party.

Add a few small water fountains and plants to your deck to give it a simple touch of nature. Small rose bushes provide a wonderful scent, which can be perfect for a nice romantic evening on your patio.

Tip # 5 – Consistency

Since your patio is simply an extension of your home, be sure to treat it this way and remain consistent to the style of your home. Your patio should obviously reflect your decorating and design style, even if they are overshadowed with lights and fountains for a party. With each party, choose a different decorating theme. This is a fun and easy way to keep your party guests on their toes and excited to come back to your home to see what fun changes you have made.

winter grilling utahHave you recently added an outdoor kitchen to your home? Now that winter has arrived in Utah, its time to hurry up with some outdoor maintenance to prevent your Traeger and other necessary kitchen appliances and tools from being ruined. Of course an awning is one of the best things to consider adding to your home as it will provide protection for your outdoor kitchen against the harsh winter weather. Here are some other tips to follow when you are winterizing your outdoor kitchen:

  1. Winterize Plumbing
    • You need to take the time to winterize the plumbing system of your kitchen to prevent serious problems. The cold air will freeze pipes, which can leave you with a massive problem if they freeze and burst. Evacuate all water from faucets and supply lines to avoid dealing with freezing pipes.
  2. Caring for a Traeger or Outdoor Grill
    • Purchase a winter cover for your Traeger or outdoor grill. We do provide accessories for winterizing your grill. Before you cover your grill or smoker, plan on spending some time de-greasing it and polishing it to keep the steel looking new. If you do not plan on using your grill any time throughout the winter, disconnect the gas line for safety.
  3. Caring for the Kitchen
    • When you are dealing with cold weather, you need to be concerned about the way in which the water and cold air will damage certain things. For example, allowing moisture to be trapped under a cover can damage a grill by rusting it out versus having a grill covered without moisture trapped under. You need to be careful if you have a refrigerator outside as there is a good chance it can freeze. Using sealers and finishers can be beneficial when it comes to protecting outdoor kitchens. Contact our Ogden location for more information about winterizing your outdoor appliances.
